In occasion of the huge media focus there has been on the use of private cell phoning at work, I think it would do good, if we as well introduced regulations for the private use when at work.
In my personal opinion, I think it would increase the efficiency at the office, if the employees would not be allowed to use expensive working hours for text messaging. Therefore I have some suggestions:
No “how-do-you-do” calls, if not at break.
No chatting on the internet, if not work related.
No personal e-mailing or internet shopping.
At other offices, it has had a great outcome, just after a year of collecting fines, when a cell phone has caused interruption.
The suggestion might not be well approved by the employees, but regulations have to be made. Therefore I think it would be wise to summon for a staff meeting, so we can agree for some guidelines for the use of internet and mobile phones.
NB!I am not suggesting an inhuman and insensitive way of working, but a professional and respectful place of work.
I hope you will consider my letter with an open mind.
