The setting of the film (where and when and what are the circumstances). It takes place in the working-class, in the north of England, in a typical “city” in the north. It is a city built because of the mines. Many of the people who live there work in the mines. But in the story there is a strike, and there is big chaos. There are a lot of demonstrations in the city. Many people needs money and are in very big problems if the miners close down.

Describe the most important character in the film – choose 2 or 3 to write about. Remember to use a lot of adjectives when you describe their personality and e.g. appearance. Also remember to write about their thoughts and personal development. The most important characters in the film are: Billy, Jackie and Tony. The whole film is about this small family.

Billy is Jackie’s youngest son. He is only 11 years old. Billy is the main character in the story. We all follow his dream and his relationship to the other characters. Billy is not like the other boys. All families have problems with money, but he has also other problems. For example is his mother dead, he thinks a lot about her, and he misses her every day. And then there is his dream, the ballet, the wonderful ballet (not because I think it is fantastic). But he likes it, except for his family the ballet means actually everything for him in the end. But in the beginning of the story his family thinks that ballet is for gays and they think it is silly. His dad thinks he should box instead because it is a tradition in the family. Billy has to choose: the loyalty for the family or his dream… Billy is very brave, and totally his own.
