Billy Elliot is an eleven year old boy. He lives in Everington in the northeast England with his dad and brother. They live in a little home in a working class neighborhood. In the beginning he is going for boxing, but he is not very good at it and he hates it. Then he discovers that he really likes to dance ballet. The relationship between Billy and his dad is not very good in the beginning, because his dad works in the mines and expects Billy to be a ‘’real’’ man, but when his dad finds out that Billy loves ballet very much he starts to support him. The family is having a hard time because of that Billy’s mom is dead and because his dad and brother is on a strike. Billy would like to talk about his mom, but his dad can’t do it because he really misses her. When Billy discovers that his best friend Michael is wearing dresses and make – up he is feeling a little weird when he is around him, but he gets all right with it.
I think that the film goes on in about 1985, because they live in a very small house with old furniture’s, they don’t have any car, they doesn’t have very many money and a boxing or ballet lesson only costs fifty pence, and that’s very cheap. Another reason could be that the UK miners’ strike was in 84-85. Also that Billy’s dad has never seen London or any other big cities.
