Introduction, religion, population, health, what they are like in other peoples’ view, similar groups and subgroups.

I have decided to pick “The Amish” as my subject for this English assignment because I, for no apparent reason, felt an urge to learn more about their culture, religion and their society in general. Thus I began my research and this is the outcome, have fun reading.

Amish are often referred to as Amish Mennonites; they're a group of Christian church fellowships that form a subgroup of the Mennonite churches. The Mennonites are a group of Christian Anabaptist denominations named after Frisian Menno Simons, whom was born in 1496, Witnarsum, which is located in the Netherlands. Menno Simons died on January the 31th 1561 in Wüstenfelde. The Mennonites were founded by a group of peaceful Anabaptists, and there are currently 1.5 million Mennonites worldwide.

The Amish are known for their simple and plain way of living their lives, and they are also known for their reluctance to adopt many conveniences of modern technology. Back in the 1920 there were approximately 5,000 people all around the globe who were Amish, there are now 249,000 Amish as of 2011, because of the rapid population growth in Amish communities, new settlements have been formed to obtain sufficient farmland.
