Businesses and corporations have a shared responsibility of upholding racial equality as everybody else. This is particularly important for businesses due to Corporate Social Responsibility policy which every organization must follow. This policy hereby requires equality amongst customers. Despite this, many corporations have been accused of racial profiling and racist display on products.

The murder of George Floyd has caused nationwide protests in the United States, as well as worldwide. With these protests, there has been an extra focus on racism in general in the United States. Business and corporations have been under the radar for racism. As racial inequality is an ongoing problem, business must actively address those issues, and put effort into battling them. Many companies strive to do this, while other companies participate in racial discrimination.

An example is how Walmart, who is the biggest grocery store brand in the United States, in 2019 actively displayed the act of racial stereotyping by locking African American hair products in glass cases in several stores. Walmart’s explained that the decision to do so was to reduce the stealing of these products, which was frequent. This is problematic as it generalizes African Americans as thieves, based on what one or a few people might have on. Furthermore, this also makes it more difficult for African American shoppers to have a comfortable and normal shopping experience as everybody else.
