Irregularities The story Irregularities is a womans telling about how her irregular heartbeat makes her boss attracted to her. True beauty lies in natures mistakes (p. 10, l. 102), he tells her. These words mark the beginning of an affair that leads to the concieving of a baby, a baby which is lost when she is bearly three months along. The woman never gets to tell her boss about the baby, and finally she loses his affection. The short story is written with a first person narrator. As a result, the reader is placed inside the narrators mind and follows
