“Irregularities” is novel written in 2003, by Courtney Jones.
In the story we see a woman, who deals with consequences of hopeless love and different aspects of human life. We never get to know the narrator´s name, but we find out that she is pregnant in line 11 “my boss, James Soleander, M.D., doesn’t even know yet about the baby inside me, though I believe he ought to. He´s the one who put it there” This does not only tells us that she is pregnant, but also explain a lot about her. She doesn’t tell Dr. Soleander that she is caring a baby, and that shows us that she is unreliable and you can´t trust her. It also shows us that she isn’t responsible because she didn’t protected her self the very first time they had sexual intercourse, and it also symbolizes not only the current relationship but also her capability of having a relationship at all, because she didn’t used protection the first time they had sex and the baby dies when their relationship ends.
She also mention her heart conditions, as an image of her attachment to her employer. She tells us that he has become addicted to her irregular heartbeat, and give an indication that he doesn’t have any feelings for her.
