Blindness is about a man, Gavin, who pretends he is blind. A woman named Liz has seen him in the library, not pretending to be blind, but instead of telling everybody, she keeps quiet. A couple of days later she meets him in “British Home Stores”. He sits down with her. Instead of the poor-man’s clothes, he was wearing flannel trousers, a white shirt and a sports jacket. Liz asks about his dog, which apparently is in his van – where he changes from the filthy clothes into something more formal. He tells her, that the way he lives is just another form of ripping people off, like the expensive clothing’s brands. The two of them get together in his van, having sex. They meet two more times, before he takes her home to his apartment. He tells her about this new dirty trick, he would like her to do. She is willing to do it, so she visit this elderly woman pretending to be a part of her family, asking for money. She gives her the money, and after that Liz does not know how she feels about it.
This story is told by a third person’s point of view. We hear the story by a narrator, but we are how Liz feels. This affects us, so we feel the way Liz does. We feel her frustration and her love, her despair.
