One day the astronomer Dr. Wulf discovers something impossible through his telescope. A comet is heading for earth. He hurries into his car, and drives towards the city, but he doesn’t make it. On a small mountainside road he drives into a careless truck driver. One year later the government finds out about the comet, but now they haven’t got much time, to prevent it from striking in the middle of the ocean. They come up with a rescue plan, which involves the big spaceship Messiah. Messiah is flown by a selected group of experienced and heroic astronauts, whose mission it is to blow up the comet with some big nuclear bombs. There will also be a big underground chamber, to survive for over 2 years, if the mission goes wrong. But in the chamber there is only room for one million Americans, who will be randomly selected by a computer. A few months later the Messiah plants a nuclear bomb on the comet. The bomb fails to destroy the comet, only a piece of it has broken off, and there are now two comets heading for earth. During the mission Messiah loses an astronaut and their communication with earth. The world is shocked by the failure and panic is seen everywhere. Because of the failure people who have been chosen are now being called on the phone, and the evacuation begins. When there is only 24 hours, until the big comet will strike, the Messiah regains communication with earth. The astronauts have planned to fly into the big comet, and destroy it once for all, this might save the world, but they will also die trying. They all agree to the consequences, and are having one last conversation with their beloved. The last mission is succeeded, and now there is only the small comet heading for earth. When it strikes the ocean, 30 meters tall waves move towards the coast, where the water has fallen back. The waves brush down every building in its way, and massive disaster strikes.
