Shaun, a 12-year old boy, is a bit of a loner and does not have any friends. He gets bullied in the school. He has recently lost his father in the Falklands War, and his mother has no energy to take care of him. A day when Shaun goes home from school, he meet a group of skinheads. The group leader, Woody, likes Shaun and talking a lot with him. Shaun quickly becomes a member of the group. Despite the large age difference between Shaun and the rest of the group, a new friendship is created. Shaun soon looks like the rest of the group when he becomes chronic rage and gets their fashion style.
The relationship between Shaun and the rest of the group goes well. He comes with them to their activities, even if it might not be something as Shaun of the age should experience. Woody and the rest of the gang spend a lot of their time to run around and abandoned houses where they do vandalism, smoking hash and listening to wild music. He gets a girlfriend named Michelle (called Smell) which is a lot older than him.
Shaun is very happy with the group, but the good times end when the older and racist Combo is released from jail and returns to the group. In his time in prison has Combo a lot of new ideas, and he tries to convince the others. He wants to fight against the government. Woody does not agree the violent ideas, and he and some of the others leave the group. But Shaun stays, and he begins to see Combo as his lost father. The flag Sct. George becomes their symbol of their fight for freedom.They spend a lot of time in Combo’s apartment. Milky, another member of the group, who leaved with Woody, comes to Combo’s group. One evening, they smoke a lot of hash and have a good time. But suddenly Combo gets violent, and he beats Milky until he pass out. Shaun leaves and cries because of the big shock, but comes back and helps Combo to bring Milky to the hospital.In the end, Shaun throws Sct. George into the sea.
