Do today’s teenagers use social networks as a way of self-promotion?
A lot of today’s teenagers have a Facebook account, me inclusive. But there have lately been many teenagers creating a blog on Facebook. A guy called Karol, is making statuses all the time where he’s writing things like “If you’ve ever blinked, then like this status”, “If you have a arm, then like this status” and “Like this status, if you’re breathing right now”. Some of my friends think that he’s funny, but I think that he’s too much. I don’t like when people are “like-hunters”, I just think that it’s annoying, because they would do anything just to get likes on statuses and videos. I have a Facebook account, but I’m not that like-hunter type though.
One year ago, a girl called Amanda Todd, shown herself naked to guys over the Internet. One of the guys blackmailed her, and he put the pictures on the Internet. Amanda uploaded a video on YouTube where she told her story through small paper cards, she then got bullied and she got a depression, afterwards she killed herself. I think that the story of Amanda Todd definitely can be called narcissistic. But what’s worse is that three days after she died, she got over a million views on her video on YouTube. I think that it’s so sad that people only cared when she already died.
