1)In the beginning of the story you hear about the setting of the story, as the young man walks by. You hear how the weather is; soft, lovely, and beautiful. The first sentences goes, "On an early evening in May of 1963". By giving the beginning a more deep description of the surroundings, the reader will feel like they are at the screen. Thus giving an attach emotion to what's happening, Instead of saying, "May, 1963". As the man walks down the street, an old lady gives him a sheepish remark by calling out load " Hey, beautiful". Another point toward the romantic setting of the opening screen. As he walks down the streets a radio can be heard in the background, talking about; a hammer murdered, the war in Vietnam, the Russians nucleus booms, an a losing war agents heroin. This is the point in the story where all the romantic dies. Even though he walks into a flower shop and buys flowers. He walks out and a man yells across the street if he wants to buy his wedding ring, the man declares and proceed to walk down the streets. At Seventy-third Street, the man takes a left turn and calls out the name Norma. A woman reacted to the callout with a smile, but it faded as she didn't recall who it was. The man gave her the flowers, but she reclined. He did not take kindly to this action, and proceeded to beat he with a hammer he had in his jacket. This is pretty much the ending to the romantic side of the story and goes into grim-dark ganger. 2) The man calls himself Love; Love is about average to above average in height, young, where's a coat with a hammer inside and he has dark to black hair. Love goes around a kills women because his looking for a girl named Norma. Every time they scream, love hits them with a hammer to stop the screaming. That's probably the same way Norma died, teen years ago. Love is crazy, no need to denying that. He probably killed Norma teen years ago, and can't take the blame. So he mentally covers it up and keeps looking for her. But every time a girl scream he is reminded about Norma, then tries to shut it out with a hammer. You can read hints about his mentality though out the story, The way he checks his coat's poked, after hearing the radio news talking about a hammer murderer and the way he walked into a dark alley way giving a random girl flowers. 3) Stephen King started the story in medias res, to capture the readers from the start. As the story progresses you can feel that its building up to something. Why is he happy? Who is he buying flowers for? Why did he react the way he did when he walked pass the radio? The buildup keeps
