“The ethnic minority communities in Britain comprise 5.7 per cent of the total population but are likely to rise to about 7 per cent in the early years of the twenty-first century, on account of their higher birth rate.”

De etniske minoriteters samfund I Storbritannien udgør 5.7 procent af hele samfundet men vil stige til omkring 7 procent i de tidlige år af 21. århundrede, på baggrund af deres højere føderate

2) Translate and explain what the following sentence means:

p. 98, paragraph 1

“The initial view that non-white immigrants would assimilate into the host community was quickly proved wrong.”

Den umiddelbare oversigt som ikke-hvide immigranter tilegner sig, ind i det myldrende samfund var hurtigt bevist forkert.

Is it fair to expect immigrants to be assimilated into a host society?

I think it’s fair to expect, that immigrants should be adapted to the society. It doesn’t mean, that they can’t have their own religion and stuff like that, but I think they have to be a part of the society, and lean about the traditions and values and especially the language, in the country they are immigrants in.

Explain the difference(s) between the terms “assimilation” and “integration”.
