Youth Violence, Media and the Columbine Shooting

He talks about youth culture and youth violence. He explains that there are many definitions of the two terms but one thing is sure about the terms. They are both global in his point of view. Taylor tells that youth violence is everywhere. It is not just a problem in certain communities. The problem is global. For Taylor it is like the violence has become a part of the youth culture. It is difficult to separate violence and culture from each other. There are many reasons for the rise of violence. Taylor thinks that parents for example are not equipped to deal with their kids.

It is also a problem for Taylor that the entertainment industry provokes violence. The media is generally a bad tool for the youth. There are too many bad things about it. It is a problem for youth to handle all the information from the media. Taylor explains that it does not help if we remove the videogames, entertainment industry and music. It is like the problem is so huge that you have to find different ways to solve all the violence among youth.

There are many cultures in America. One of them is the cowboy-culture. Some people will maybe say that this culture has been the cause of the shooting at Columbine high school. William F. Jasper has another view. The two boys Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold are cold-blooded killers. They had no sense of sympathy when they killed innocent students. The two boys is a part of a grotesque youth subculture. They boys are from an environment where sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll are everything. This subculture has a negative effect on any young boy or girl. The youth are like in a nihilistic rebellion. They seem to live in their own world. Nothing exists in the reality for them. Eric and Dylan are big devotees of the crazy satanic “Goth rocker” Marilyn Manson. Manson is an absolutely insane person that has a lot of bad values. Eric and Dylan are two boys who are on the wrong track. It is simply not possible for them to get back on the right track again. That is why they killed so many innocent students. There are no way back for the boys. Psychical are they unstable.
