The false moon is a short story written by Shirley Golden (2011). The main theme is about children needing love and guidance from parents while growing up. A child also needs someone it can count on while growing up. But if these factors are not met e.g. Love, the child will search for all these things, sometimes in the wrong places. The main character in “The false moon” is also the first person narrator. His name is Matt and he tells the story of his life, as a teenage boy who lives alone with his mother who works in shifts and who is almost never at home neither mentally nor psychically.
Matt, the main character describes himself as a tall and thin guy he is not a tough guy and would not dream of fighting with other people. In school, he has some problems with the subjects as well as his classmates he tries to act as if the others are losers, but the truth is that he feels like an outsider. He skips school as soon as he gets the opportunity. Because his mother is never at home, he hides things from her, e.g. letters from school, their lives are like this: his mother comes home late at night, wakes up Matt with loud noises because she is drunk, and at last, she falls asleep snoring. So in fact, his mother has no idea what kind of life her son lives.
