Summary of the text: “The False Moon” written by Shirley Golden, 2011

Matt is a teenage boy living with his absent-minded mother. Matt lacks supervision from his mother and is suffering registration at school. He usually sneaks out of the house roaming alleys and wasteland at night. One evening he knocks over a tin of paint and sees an outline of a graffiti woman on the wall. He finishes the outline and leaves a numeral in each space suggesting a color, and a girl finishes his painting, following his instructions. Matt leaves clues to the girl where the next graffiti will be. He starts the graffiti, and she finishes it. Although Matt doesn’t know the girl, she is the only thing that matters to him. One afternoon Matt’s mother finds out that Matt is doing graffiti and has not been attending school. She blames herself, but Matt is ready to find his own path without any help.

Interpretation and analysis of the text: “The False Moon” written by Shirley Golden, 2011

Many children have the same problems as Matt, but people possibly do not realise the importance of having alcoholic parents. The short story “The False Moon” by Shirley Golden gives us a good insight in the life, of a lonely child with an alcoholic mother.
