I think that fair trade and the fair trade brand is unknown for big parts of the society. The youth, me included, are not thinking about fair trade or know anything about the FAIRTRADE brand.
It is not because we do not want the farmers or workers in the beginning of the production chain to have a hard life and a loss on the bottom line, or not earning enough to support their family, but we are not thinking about fair trades when we are in the supermarket or buying a new shirt. When I’m looking for new clothes, I am not looking for the FAIRTRADE brand, I am looking for what I think looks good for the right price and I am pretty sure most people feel the same way.
I think most people wish that people all around the world could have a good life with enough money to buy food and clothes. With that said, I also know that most people are buying the cheapest products in the supermarket without even giving a thought to where the product has its origins, I know this from myself too.
I actually think it is sad that so many people are just joking about something this serious. For instance, sometimes I hear different kind of jokes about Chinese children working for almost nothing. This is in context to if you have bought a really cheap non-food product. When people tell the jokes, I do not really think they are thinking about the serious aspects of this.
