Amerikansk immigration: udfordringer og kontroverser

Immigration is a well discussed topic all over the world – especially right now with all the Syrian people escaping from Syria because of the war. America has always been a country that takes a lot of immigrants, and they still do. As they say: “We are a nation of immigrants”. Immigration is not a new thing for America – they are bullied around the immigrants and they welcome those who embrace America and they have made America what it is today. But can it go on like this? What about the 11 million immigrants who live in America undocumented? How can they stop it? Arizona has come up with a new law that says the police can check all the people they find suspicious, especially the Hispanic-looking people. Is it too extreme? Or should all the states do this?

Can America keep taking all these immigrants? A lot of people are showing their frustration with the system that seems fundamentally broken. Immigrants are no surprise for America. They welcome a lot of immigrants, but still there are a lot of illegal immigrants all over America. What about them? Immigrants have done a lot of good things for America. America has received a lot of economics awards and they couldn’t have done that without the stream of immigrants - the hardworking and talented immigrants. They all want a better life for themselves and their families, and they want to live in peace. America attracts the best and brightest people from across the world, which helps America with global economics and that gives hope around the world. But can it keep on going like this? All success? Is there a dark side of this?The process of immigration has often been painful. America has had hard times with the immigration, especially a century ago. A century ago, a lot of people came Ireland, Italy, Poland and a lot of other European countries, but most of them were routinely rejected to rank discrimination and ugly stereotypes, but why? Chinese immigrants were immediately deported – they didn’t even come in. Why did they suddenly do that? Why weren’t the Chinese people allowed to come in? The only thing the immigrants wanted to do was to have a better life, work, and be a part of a country. Instead, there are 11 million undocumented immigrants in America today. Arizona took matters into their own hands and made a new law. The law says that the police can check people’s documents to see if they are in the country illegally. So if you don’t have the right documents, the police can arrest you. Isn’t this too extreme? Imagine driving in your car and the police pull you over to check all your documents because you look different; that’s discrimination. How would the people feel? You might be a second generation immigrant. People will start fearing the police. Is that the meaning of this law? On the other hand, Arizona will make sure they don’t have any undocumented immigrants. Over the past two decades, the Latino population in Arizona has grown fast. Today, 83% of Arizona’s older people are white, but only 43% of the younger people are. The local people fear the change. The immigrants will be scared to be in Arizona if they aren’t there legally. Should this be a law in all states? As President Obama said: “The task is to make US nations laws work. Shape a system that reflects our values as a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants”. Because of all the immigrants, a lot of good things have happened for America. Because of the immigrants America is what it is today. Albert Einstein, Google Ink and the countless names that never made it to the history books – they built America. People think differently when they think of immigrants. Some think that America should close the borders, and some think that they should let more people in – but the balance if hard to find. The nation of immigrants has had their bad times and their good times – but was it all worth it? It has often been painful, but it made America what it is today. The economic awards, Albert Einstein, Google Ink and all the talented people America attracts – a lot of success. Even through the century with all the Europeans and Chinese who were sent away and the 11 million undocumented immigrants. Today America still stands up and shows that they are proud of themselves and what they have accomplished - a great nation of immigrants.
