Ali is son of Parvez, he is a wise and in his late teens. He is outgrowing his teenage years and attitude, starting to become a man. Parvez describes his son in an odd way at first by describing him as a grown boy doing drugs. In the first part of the story, we are told that Ali is giving all away, all the things in his own room. Which makes his father, Parvez, worried. We learn that Parvez notices Alis strange and changing behavior, as he discovers his almost empty room and changing attitude. He broke up with his English girlfriend and apparently he has lost some friends, since they have stopped ringing. Ali seems to be a person with his life on track, not at first though, but he gives us this impression that he is losing it in the first part of the "My son the fanatic". He also seems talented, because a guitar is mentioned, and so much money spend on education. He is a very smart kid in school also, we heard about his father bragging about his school and sports to his co-workers. Ali is not mentioned so much in the story as Parvez, its mostly Parvez' thoughts about Ali. In the end Parvez finds out that the boy is just praying in his room, but oddly in the end the father hits him before Ali is leaving and Ali is a little provocative towards his father, who only tries to get through to his only son. But it seems like the attempt to achieve that, fails.
