Characterization of Parvez
Parvez is an overprotective and caring father who lives in London, which you can see on page 65, line 35, where it says, “As Ali talked, Parvez looked out of the window as if to check that they were still in London.” Parvez is working as a taxi driver and his roots are from Pakistan where he comes from, you know this by reading from line 4 on page 61, where it says “Parvez had been a taxi driver for twenty years. Half that time he'd worked for the same firm. Like him, most of the other drivers were Punjabis.” In this case Punjabis indicates that he is from Pakistan.
After living many years in England, Parvez is now well integrated, and he likes the English culture. He has a son, Ali. Parvez buys a lot of stuff for Ali, so Ali can do well in school. Parvez does not really think about his old religion, so now he eats bacon for breakfast and drinks, even though his religion says that he cannot.
