The Tattooing industry has grown to beyond description and so have the different opinions on the subject, whether it is good or bad to get a tattoo.
1. Text 1:”Is Tattooing a Form of Self-Mutilation?” is written by Andy Carrington. The text states that 1“a tattoo is no longer considered to be just a decorative body modification […]” It discusses if getting a tattoo is an act of self-mutilation. There is a fine line between getting a tattoo as a self-expressive act or as an act of rebellion. Anderson and Sansone discuss the subject in their study: “Tattooing as a Means of Acute Affect Regulation” they say that 2“tattoos are an indication of an individual’s psychological problem” a way of looking at people with apparent self-mutilation problems is that they feel frustrated and powerless because the cant express themselves as they would like to. 3”[…]whether the decision to get a tattoo is a result of positive or negative inspirations, only the individual’s honesty can truly be the judge after that outcome.”
Text 2:“Tattoos were once a sign of rebellion – now they are evidence of craven conformity to cultural norms” is written by Brendan O’Neill. It declares that people with tattoos are more mainstream than people without tattoos. The mayor of the Japanese city of Osaka recently banned tattooed people from working in local government.
