The riots in Ferguson started, as a response to the death of Michael Brown. Michael Brown was shot by a white police officer, named Darren Wilson on August 9, 2014, in Ferguson. Darren Wilson was exonerated, as the jury meant had not participated in a crime. The riots were a way for the black people to demonstrate against the discrimination of black people, which they felt were happening. Even if it’s a long time ago, since the black people were held as slaves, the memory will always be a part a black man’s way of thinking. They will not accept to be held as victims, without a reason. For a long time, the police had been using “broken windows” which should be a way of securing peace. “Broken windows” is a theory, which is about setting a norm, and signaling that crime will be defeated. When practicing the theory, there will be a lot more stop-and-frisk actions. The problem with this theory, is that black people often are seen as the root of the problem. Therefore, the police perform way more stop-and-frisk actions on them. This makes the black people feel insecure, and they will lose their trust in the police. It is said, that trust is a 2-way thing. If the one part doesn’t trust the other, there will be no trust in their relationship.
