Hello ladies and gentlemen and honoured attendees, how are you?

My name is [NAVN A]. Currently I am studying at the London School of Economics and Political Science, therefore I have been asked to explain the current situation about immigration.

Before we begin I would like to thank you guys for giving me the opportunity to come here today and talk to you about immigration at the EU Youth Conference 2014.

I have set approximately 20 minutes for questions after my talk but if you have something important to ask me that just can’t wait, you are more than welcome to interrupt.

As I have already said I am here today to discuss a topic which is becoming a bigger and bigger matter in Britain; namely immigration. In my speech I will address economic, social, cultural and political aspects of UK immigration. Also I have chosen some extra material, which is going to support the topic, it is the two following texts: David Cameron’s Immigration Speech and Majority of voters think immigration is harming Britain.

First of all I think it would be good for all of us to point out what immigration actually is. So I will do that. Oxford dictionaries’ definition of immigration is ‘’the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country’’. Just to make sure that you and I understand each other I will try to explain it in ordinary English. Immigration is when a person emigrates from a country to join another. So when people leave their own country to go to another country they are emigrating from the old to immigrate to the new. So it is when a person settles down in a country, which is not one’s own.
