Around 800 million people suffer from severe malnutrition worldwide, due to lack of food access. But up to 4 billion tons of food goes to waste. Has industrialization contributed to food waste? Food waste has a negative impact on today’s world and many aid agencies are trying to stop the food waste. Certain countries in Africa is still suffering from the lack of food, and I will be discussing what problems there are, and come with possible solutions. I will then draw a conclusion of the possible solutions.
An estimated 800 million people suffer from malnutrition, where 36 million people die of starvation. In a VOA news segment, there has been reported that 2,3 million children have died due to malnutrition. A report from the aid agency, Save the Children says that there is enough food to feed every child in the world, but still 4 billion tons of food is being thrown away. Is this ethical? I think that humans are unknowingly selfish and lazy, and the reason why is probably because, we as humans say a lot of things but still does not act out on these statements. Not in a despicable way, but we could be a bit more aware of the things we could be help with. Not as a one-time thing, where you voluntarily attend in a charity activity once a year, but something that you can do weekly or daily to support the people in need. Every person could sponsor a child, where you give the child necessities like healthcare and education. I know this might not be accessible for every person, but for those with lower income, daily donations of small amounts of money could be very doable. According to, National Philanthropic Trust 25% of The American population volunteer their time, energy and talent to make a difference.
