The Amish is a group of people who live all around the world. For people who are not Amish, the Amish appear to be less modern and more reluctant to the technological development.
They have chosen an alternative lifestyle where they, among other things, follow their own set of rules called “The Ordnung”. The Amish community reminds me of the old days because “The Ordnung” says that they can not use any technology invented after the 17th century, meaning that the Amish do not have cars, tvs, washing machines etc. They believe that technology is a threat to the community. Therefore, their life is already very different from ours as technology is an essential part of our life. I do not know any teenagers who do not have a phone, a tv, a computer etc. And to many, social media is a part of their identity and becomes a thing that they can not live without.
To me it seems that the teenagers in an Amish family live by very strict rules, but maybe it appears this way because it is two completely different point of views. The Amish teenagers are raised to be part of a group in which everyone contributes to the community and in our society the teenagers are raised to be individualistic and be able to take care of themselves.
