The movie is about this boy with the name Jamal Malik, he and his brother Salim Malik are orphaned after their mother got killed. after their mother's death, they lived on the street and as beggars. they met this girl(Latika) there also was an orphan and they became best friends. One day a group of men find them and wants to maim them, so they can become beggars again but this time more hardcore. but they find out their plan and escape, but they forgot Latika. after some years Jamal signs up for the India version of (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire). When he came to the show the host did not quite believe him and make fun of him towards the audience. but after some questions that he got right. did he get some respect and he could only answer their questions right because the questions were related to his childhood and he had some strong memories there was important for him? The host suspected him of a cheat and Jamal had to prove he was legit and didn't cheat but after all, he won the show and got Latika back.
