The movie is about a guy, called Jamal Malik, and his life. He is a boy who has seen a lot of things through his life. He’s a very kind person and also very smart. He’s in love with a girl called Latika, and has been that since first sight. His bigger brother, Salim Malik, is a little jealous with Jamal. Maybe because of Latika or maybe that he always gets lucky. After Jamal and Salim fled from their hometown, where the mother got killed by Muslims, they met Latika and took her with them on their escape from the reality. They got picked up by the orphanage in the landfill. Every day they had to go beg or sing for money. Salim was chosen for leader, because he had the will and the power to control the other children. But when the bad guys want to make Jamal blind, because he can’t sing, he backs out and they escape. They take the train, but Latika can’t run as fast as the train and gets caught. It seems to be like that, but Salim lost the grip on her hand on purpose. Salim has been very affected of his experiences. He is a little hard on Jamal sometimes, but most of the time he is very kind. He has been crazy with money the most of his life, and is willing to do almost everything to get some. But if it’s going to cost him his friends and family he doesn’t want anything.
