Slumdog Millionaire: film- og bogsammenligning

Jamal Malik is just 1 question away from winning the game show ‘’Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’’ But when the show stops for the night, Jamal is arrested, because of the TV company is accusing him of cheating. The police begin to torture him, but he keep’s telling them, that he is innocent. So they decide to just play the trailer of the game show, and then Jamal just need tell, how he knew the answer, and so the movie continues to switch between Jamal’s history, the game show and the interrogation. Jamal, his brother Salim and his mother live in the slum. Jamal and Salim is going out on a big adventure after their mother’s death. On their adventure, they are meeting a lot of people such as the gang leader ‘’Maman’’ on an orphanage home. At the orphanage they meet the girl Latika, she becomes Jamal’s big love. Later on Jamal and Salim escape from Maman on a train to the Taj Mahal, but what about Latika? Does Jamal ever see her again? And how does he join the game show?

Opinion:

I think the movie is better than the book, because you get a little closer to Jamal (Ram) in the movie than in the book, but it is maybe because of the book is a shortened version. I also think, that the effect the movie use to switch between Jamal’s story, the game show and the interrogation is very good, but that effect wouldn’t be the same in a book. However the book is very simple to keep track of.
