The biggest theme in the movie is poverty and love, but money is a big problem too. Jamal is in the TV program “who wants to be a millionaire”. He wins 2 million rubies in the end. The movie starts with a question, and the whole movie you wait for the question to be answered – how can a slumdog win? They arrest him, because they think that he cheats. The main character is Jamal, but his brother Salim and a girl named Latika are also a kind of main characters. You follow their whole life, from they are children to they are grown up. You will se how children live in India. Their lives are very sad and dramatic, and every day is a struggle to survive. Jamal and Salim lost their mother in a religious conflict, so they live alone on the street. The answer to the question of why he wins is because its’ mend to be – destiny.
I have chosen poverty and crime as two important themes from the movie. The people who live in India don’t have so much money. They live for less than 2$ a day, and if they have a job they get so poor pay, that they almost cant live. Because of that there are many young people who get into crime, and sell drugs to other people. After they are started, they can’t stop and then they get into trouble they cant come out of. There are some people in India, who kidnap children and abuse them or sell them to other people, so they can get money. In the movie, there is a man who kidnaps Salim, Jamal and Latika. The man wants to sell Latika to other people, but Salim and Jamal rescue her after they run away from him. Salim gets a job, where the boss is a gangster. Its just one of the things in the movie that proofs that India is a country where people would do almost everything to get money.
