Analysis of a speech – Donald Trump’s Speech on Immigration

Donald Trump has caused a lot of doubt and mayhem in the minds of people around the world. The most divided and confused, the Americans of course, chose him to be the president after Obama. The world watched in terror. Donald has aggressive and negative views on some subjects but the most discussed subject from his side is the immigration problem that the US is facing. This essay is an analysis of the proposing speech about immigration, that Donald Trump gave in Phoenix, Arizona the 31. of August 2016.

Donald Trump is a great speaker and he knows who his audience is. But knowing your audience isn´t enough, you should engage them as well. So how does Donald engage his audience? First off, Donald is showing his feelings a lot. He isn´t shy to tell the audience who he loves and who he despairs, but telling who he loves isn´t enough. He must reason and involve the people like he does in his speech: “I love the people of Arizona and, together, we are going to win the White House in November.” In this way, Donald is letting people know that he isn´t running the campaign on his own and that he can´t success without his supporters. Another way for Donald to engage his audience, is showing and proclaiming how he wants to serve it. Donald puts the facts on the table for his audience and blows the “truth” into their faces: “The fundamental problem with the immigration system in our country is that it serves the needs of wealthy donors, political activists and powerful politicians. Let me tell you who it doesn’t serve: it doesn’t serve you, the American people.” In this statement, Donald explains how the “ordinary”, American people doesn´t get served by the immigration system. In this way, his audience will feel framed and their emotions alongside their engagement would increase.
