The short story ”2BR02B” by Kurt Vonnegut written in 1962 is a tale of a dystopian future where the main problem is world overpopulation. In the beginning the world i described as a perfect world without diseases and crime. The population of the US was only forty million people. So many people were killed. They killed all the sick, poor, criminal and invented some anti-aging medicine. In the story you hear about Edward K. Wehling Jr, the painter, Laura Duncan and Dr. Hitz. Edward K. Wehling Jr is waiting for his wife to give birth to triplets. But if the triplets are going to live they need three volunteers to die so that the world Is not overfilled again. Edward Jr is happy that he is getting twins but still miserable cause he only has one volunteer, his own grandfather. Edgard talks to the painter who is painting a picture. The picture shows some people who is taking care of a garden. It is all very orderly and organized, and there are no expressions of feelings or regrets in the mural. And the people have no faces. The painter is not fond of the world he is living in an he wants to kill himself. He has reached the conclusion that the world will never be perfect, the painter seems to be a very thoughtful person but is not good making his words come to action. That shows in the story cause in the start he says he want to kill himself and not die in a chamber but in the end he calls the bureau. The painter is not good at expressing himself so instead he ends up sounding like an grumpy old man. In the end Edward kills Laura Duncan and Dr. Hitz and himself but I doesn´t “count” cause he didn´t get at receipt from the bureau.
