In this world, there are many different cultures, different skin colours and different religions, but behind the facade we are all the same, every single person is born the same way and originated from flesh and blood. Every person has individual personalities and emotions.
But what happens if cultures defy each other, will all receive the same treatment and respect?
I will look at the aspects of these contrasts and cultural differences by analysing the web article, “Summary of interview with Sapna” from INSTITUTE FOR IMMIGRATION RESEARCH.
Sapna is a twenty-year-old Indian woman from Arlington, Virginia. While her mother was pregnant with her and her twin sister in 1994, immigrated her parents from India to the United States. Sapna has her whole life felt different because she has other family values, but also because she has been treated different from others and she felt a lack of respect. After the 9/11 attack it all got worse, she felt even worse treated than before, even though 9/11 has nothing to do with India. In first class Sapna remembers a child in her class who said to her “my dad says your dad is a terrorist” These comments and looks from other children and adults has effected Sapna, she is now very uncertain and dare not come forward with her opinions by fear of not being respected.
