1. In the opening scene where Nelson Mandela is just released from prison and drives by two groups, one playing football and one playing rugby, how does each group react? The black football group celebrates Mandela, they are happy. The white rugby group does not understand why he is so important. And their trainer tells them that Mandela is a terrorist. 2. What does Mandela mean in his inauguration address (tiltrædelsestale) when he says, “The indignity of being the skunk off the world.” He means that the world looks down of SA, because it is/was a country with apartheid. He wants to change that.
3. How does Francois’ father react to the new government? He doesn't like the new government, and he is afraid that they are gonna take the white peoples jobs and drive them into the sea like in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. 4. What does Mandela tell the white staff members of the former apartheid government? What did they expect? They thought that he was going to fire all the whites, but instead he gives them the choice to stay or leave. He substantiates it with the words. “Foreby is foreby and the past is the past.” 5. How do the white and black bodyguards react to each other? Why does Mandela insist The black bodyguards are curious and bewildered about working with white bodyguards, because these are the people who want Mandela dead. The white bodyguards are also not excited about it. Mandela wants the white and black bodyguards to work together, because he thinks the only way for peace in SÅ is reconciliation and confidence. 6.
