Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist are two young men at the age of about 17 years. They are both in lack of money, and are therefore working on Brokeback Mountain, where their job is to herd a bunch of sheep. I especially like when Ennis meets Jack, he starts to open up about himself, and tells what he has gone through in his life, and how he has lost both of his parents at a young age. While they spend all their time with each other for half a year, they start to fall in love. The big problem with that is, that in the 1960`s it wasn’t legal to marry another person of the same sex, and people were even seen as being mentally ill, if they were into the same sex. Even today in 2018 it isn’t legal to marry another person of the same sex some places in the world, and in America it was actually only legalized in 2015. Only three years ago.
When they are done working after half a year on the mountain, they take off in each direction. They both know that they can’t be together in any way. Especially Ennis, who taught it the hard way, when he was younger. His father - who definitely was homophobic - took him out to see a dead body of a man, who had been killed, because he was in a relationship with another man. He did this, to get his son to understand, that he couldn’t be homosexual. His father was probably also a part of killing the man.
