The Second Amendment provides the people in USA the right to bear arms. The law came inDecember in 1791. Since then there has been a lot of controversy about the subject. The huge numbers of school shootings in America has parents, children and politicians shaking. There has been a huge discussion on gun-control. The schools are covered with bullet proof windows, guards and weapons. Is school really a safer place now? Should a teacher take the extra responsibility to carry a gun, and is that their job? The article “Armed and safe?” written by Joe Heim talks about the topic from many different perspectives.

In the article, the main topic is about if teachers should be allowed to bear arms. In 10states teachers and staff are allowed to bear arms at school. The concern against gun-control at school typically comes from the parents at home or at work, with no control over the staff at the school. Amanda Gallagher who has two daughters in grade school says, “They seem very concerned with response times but not as concerned with the rest of the risks of having armed teachers in school. I’m very concerned that my kids are not going to come home from school one day, but it doesn’t make me feel better that the teachers are armed. It just gives me new things to worry about”. (s.3, l.32-26) There have been voiced many different opinions about the subject, from people such as politicians, parents, school teachers and students, witch address the situation in different ways such as Amanda Gallagher who things that adding guns just adds to things to worry about. In the article J.H mentions a freshmen, who says that she feels safer knowing that the teachers are armed, “The teachers don’t talk about it, they don’t show the guns,” she says. “I kind of forget it’s there.” (s.3, l.18-22) However the huge amount of trust the teachers are getting is dangerous. To put a gun in a locker can make the risk of someone using it a lot higher. The possibility to stop the events from happening are very small and the attempt to do so is not talked about. There are no questions on who, but how to stop as many murders as possibly when it happens. All that responsibility lays on the teachers.
