Welcome to this tour of Cambridge. My name is Pauline and I will be your guide. We are going to see Cambridge city from this boat. We are going to sail on the river called River Cam. On this tour you will get around University of Cambridge, Cambridge University Botanic Garden, Cambridge Castle, Ely Cathedral and River Cam. The tour will last almost 2 hours.
I will start talking about River Cam the river we are sailing on. River Cam is about 40 miles long. The old name of River Cam was actually Granta but the inhabitants in Cambridge thought that the name didn't sound like a river from Cambridge. They took the Cam from Cambridge and then it was called River Cam. That is very surprising right?
We are now sailing past University of Cambridge. The university is among others known for some of its former students such as Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Stephen Hawking and Prince Charles of Wales. Cambridge University is one of the best universities not only in England but in the whole world.
On your left hand you see Ely Cathedral which is a 66 meters high cathedral. It was built from year 1083 to 1375. Ely Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral.
