Thank you for having me. It is such an honour to be here today talking about the food waste awareness.
I am a student from the London School of Economics and Political Science. I am quite an expert because I am doing a major in food waste. The problems with food waste have always interested me and that is one of the reasons that I chose to do my major in food waste.
Before I continue, I will ask you to write down your questions. After the presentation, I will answer your written down questions.
Right now, food waste is a huge problem in England. The problem is especially very known in the supermarkets where tons of food is being thrown out every year. Because of that, the social supermarkets have occurred.
The social markets have three functions. The first one is about the food that cannot be sold in the supermarkets but still is edible. That includes products which are very close to or past their sell-by or best before dates, those with damaged or old packaging, discontinued products or mislabeled goods with spelling errors or wrongly advertised weight.
The second function is their wraparound services. The members are offered help to have a great life again. Some of them may have lost some connections and social activities but with the wraparound service, they have the possibility to connect with people over food, training and other activities. There is also the opportunity to get help getting back to be working again.
