Homelessness is, in fact, one of the clearest themes in this novel. A big purpose with this book was for sure to show the ordinary citizen how things work for homeless people. The novel shows us a parallel society in which no ordinary citizen would ever like to belong to. People pretend this society does not exist and pretend that homeless people are invisible.
Friendship
The novel tells us that you can make friends everywhere, but you have to be careful and critical to whom you trust. For example, it was not great when Ginger got killed because Link was addicted to having a friend like Ginger. So the book is about the pros and cons of having a friend whom you are not independent of.
Link
During the novel, we hear Link telling us his story of how he got homeless and how it is to live as a dosser. He tells us about how the experience that every punter who walks by him ignore him and does not care at all about helping him. Through the novel, he gets more and more stuck in the parallel society of dossers. He cannot get a job because he does not have a home, and he cannot get a home because he does not have a job. He also taught us that lots of people do not believe that he is homeless. Lots of solcredulist believes that he is out begging for money, almost for fun, and then in the evening he goes home to his parents and gets a nice evening meal and a good kip in his soft bed. These are rumours spread by all the tabloids.
