Nelson Roilhlahla Mandela was born 18 July 1918 and died the 5th of December 2013. Nelson Mandela was a South African politician and activist. On April 27, 1994, he was made the first elected president of South Africa and he represented democratic. Nelson Mandela wanted to throw out the apartheid system by ending racism, poverty, and the inequality between white and black societies.
In his time as an outstanding symbol for the fight against the apartheid system, he received more than 250 honors, including a Nobel Peace prize, the US presidential medal of freedom, and the Soviet Order of Lenin. Mandela is today described as a hero, and the actions he made gave thousands upon thousands of people hope.
Even though he was in prison for most of the revolution the people still remembered his name and his actions, he was by far the most important person in the fight against apartheid.
