In 2006 Julia Darling wrote a short story called ”The dress”. The story’s about two sisters Rachel and Flora, and their relationship is ruined by there jealousy, arrogance and selfishness. Because of their selfishness, they puts themselves as a first priority, and causes a lot of troubles at home, and when they’re out celebrating their moms fortieth birthday.

There a lot of examples in the text, wich refers to the symbols in the text, starting with the dresses the sisters I wearing. The first example where the dress indicates jelousy “But did you steal it?”...... “Why did you do it, Flora?” Asked Rachel….”Because I loved the dress. It was so pretty” (Line 150-154) This indicates jealousy from Flora’s side, because she stole her sisters dress, so she could look as pretty as possible, indstead of taking one of her own dresses. I think that their relationship is more as a cometition, than a normal couple of sisters. The way the fired up a atmosphere at the Restaurant at their moms fortieth birthday, and started fighting, because one of the sisters loved the others dress, and wantes to look good, when they went out.

The two sisters dosen’t appreciate what the mom is trying to do for them. She’s taking them out on a exspensive resturant, and works to take care of the both of them though she isn’t glad about it anymore. Here’s an example, that shows the selfishness the girls have “What are you doing?” asked Flora, innocently. “Im going to dad’s” “Why?” “Because I can’t live here any more” Rachel is leaving her mom, and moving to her dad’s place, because Flora stole her dress for a night, and it shows that the only thing she cares about, is herself, and does not appreciate the things her mom does for her. Her mom even begs her to stay, but she made her mind, and beacause she got into a fight with her sister, she’s leaving.
