The President begins his speech by thanking the population and the audience.

He says that it is understandable if the students are nervous. In addition, Barack Obama expresses understanding that the students would naturally wish they still had summer vacation.

He tells the students that he is at Wakefield High School to talk to them about their education, and what is expected of them in the upcoming school year. Barack Obama accentuate that it requires a responsibility to develop. He also mentions that the development requires students to participate in school, pay attention and listen to parents and other adults.
