Scientists are not the only ones interested in climate change. Many other people also express their opinion on the matter and have a political or economic interest in climate change – politicians, global companies, business leaders etc. Look at the tweets below, one from Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, and one from Donald Trump, president of the USA.
Work in groups:
What attitudes do you think Elon Musk and Donald Trump have to climate change?
We think that Donald Trump, was an us-president from 2016-2020, says that he cares about climate change, but he also doesn’t care. He says that he cares, to get popular, but on the inside, he doesn’t really care, because he makes jokes about the changes. He has called climate change "mythical", "nonexistent", or "an expensive hoax" - but also subsequently described it as a "serious subject" that is "very important to me". All though, in 2009, Trump signed a full-page advert in New York Times Magazine along with dozens of other business leaders, expressing support for legislation combating climate change. He has also said that China created climate changes to make US manufacturing non-competitive. When he became president in the us, he took the us out of the Paris-agreement, an agreement between a lot of countries to limit the climate changes.
