At the beginning Jonathan is at a beach saying that his dad is an astronaut. During the movie we get to know how much Jonathan loves football, we see him building his own ground at the beach and making his own homemade football jerseys. We also see him watching football at his friend’s house as he isn’t allowed to watch football by his mother. His mother orders him to find to a new hobby because football is prohibited.
We see him trying to hide his football clothes away. There’s cross editing and other scenes appear where he is playing basketball but then starts dribbling it as a football. He also tries to bowl but ends up trying to save it like a goalkeeper. This is a warrant and shows us how much he loves football.
Later, Jonathan tells us that his father died before he was born, at a football match, referring to the Hillsborough disaster. Jonathan’s mother is still in sorrow and doesn’t want her son to play football. Jonathan is stuck in a dilemma of trying to obey her mother’s wishes or going on the same football adventures as his father.
Jonathan is an eight-year-old lanky boy. He is pale and has freckles and brownish hair. We already see this at the beginning as he is standing on a beach, wearing a pair of t-shirt and shorts while screaming his name and that he is eight years old.
