I have a dream today. That I can achieve a life, filled with happiness. And that all my hard work will pay off so I can reach my long-term goals. Dear exchange students visiting Oxford academy, thank you all for attending my speech here today, it’s a pleasure. First, let me introduce myself, my name is [NAVN A], and I’m 18 years old. I would like to talk about a very crucial part of the American identity, which is the American Dream. More specifically I want to discuss the development over time of the America Dream’s concept, and where it has taken us today, but also how it may differ from what it’s like in Scandinavia where you guys come from.
My speech is divided into two parts. Firstly, I will talk about the different perceptions of the American Dream and secondly, I will discuss what it takes to achieve it in the America we live in today.
I would like to start by telling you about the different perceptions that one can have of the ideal life as an American. The American Dream has always been an important trademark of our country. People worldwide believe that the USA is the most reliable place to achieve one's biggest dreams. Some people perceive the ideal American Dream as establishing a loving family, and others connect it with a high social status involving wealth and success. We can connect many values with this lifestyle. Whether it’s freedom, individualism or volunteerism, the society and our environment will regardless always play a big part in the process of achieving any kind of dream or goal in life. The whole concept is all about changing your life for the better, regardless of social status or race, the main idea is that anyone can achieve this desired dream if they put their mind to it and prioritize it as their most vital goal.
