In text 1 “Quitting social media changed my life and it would probably change yours too” the author Faridah T’Eko tells us about how “unplugging” from social media has had a positive impact on her mental health.
The first time on a break from social media was in 2011 while moving to France. She describes her trip as “Blissful” because no one except from her mom could reach her.
Then during an election in Nigeria, Faridah didn’t know her own mind because of all the discussions online. She wanted what’s best for the country, so she decided to think more independently.
The latest break was 10 months without social media, and she describes how impactful for her mental health and personal development it has been.
When she takes a break it’s always difficult the first few days, but she finds the true values and how she want to design her life.
The break also helps her focus where before she couldn’t make it through an entire book because she was consuming content in short form (via Instagram Twitter) and her brain had accustomed to the short form content.
