The article is called “It’s only me” because he, Charles Andrew Williams, sees himself as a loner. He doesn’t need anybody to help him with anything. “No one heard him ask for anybody, not even his mom or dad” (p.60 cl. 2 l. 42-43). The title got nothing to do with the other school shootings in the US but Williams’.
Comment on the children’s motives for threatening to shoot
The motives they have are so far out. Broken hearts and bad music isn’t an excuse for threatening to shoot.
Why do parents at nearly every school shooting say they “never thought it would happen here”?
Because you send your children to school, were there’s people around to look out for your kids while you’re not there. When you can leave your kids in the protection of others, it means that you have trust in the person or the place. You will never expect a school shooting to happen at your area because we’ll all say, for our own good, that we’re lucky enough to avoid it.
According to the article, what do school shootings and plane crashes have in common and do you agree?
That they both are rare and have a riveting effect on the fear that they evoke. I definitely agree. You get scared of a plane crash or a school shooting, even if it not happens to you. That’s because we’ll always think “that could be me”.
