The “Romeo and Juliet” movie takes place in Verona Beach, where the longtime rivals in religion and business, the Montague’s and the Capulet’s are staying. At a very wild costume party Romeo sees Juliet and its love at first sight. But at the end of the party he realizes that Juliet is a Capulet, therefore the enmity between the two clans becomes the root of his angst. He relies heavily, and with serious consequences, on his rebel gender-bender of a friend, Mercutio, and Father Lawrence for protection and support. Romeo is, of course, exiled, and it looks like Juliet will be forced into an arranged marriage with the bland Paris. It ends, as Romeo and Juliet must, when Romeo hears a tragic piece of misinformation and brings his suicide wish to what was meant to be Juliet’s temporary tomb. There he commits suicide with poison, and Juliet wakes up at the same time while seeing her lover die. Therefore she kills herself with his handgun, and they both die in peace and after that the rivalry between the Montague’s and the Capulet’s ends.

My opinion about the movie

First of all, I was very surprised about the movie. I think it’s was very good because of its style and originality. It also thought that it was very cool that the director had kept the original script from Shakespeare while using environments, places, and time that was very modern and looked like something from our century etc. cars instead of horses and guns instead of swords. Therefore it was very hard to understand what they were saying because of the language that was from the fifteenth century, and the subtitles didn’t make it any easier. But that, for me, didn’t matter because I think it gave the movie its charm. The cast was very good in my opinion; I think both Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes had a solid performance, and it must have been very difficult roles because of their lines, and the old English language. One person in the movie that I really liked was Juliet’s nurse (her real name is Miriam Margolyes). I think her acting was very good, and she was a very sweet and nice, as the nurse, in the movie. The only ‘bad’ thing I can come up with right now is that I think it maybe was a little bit too long or a little bit boring sometimes. So if I had to give the movie points from 0 to 10, I would probably give it 8.
