Gossip is a poem written by Ann Landers. It is about gossip, how gossip can ruin people’s life and almost kill them.
The poem is written like it was written by a sort of ghost called “Gossip”, in many ways I think gossip is like a ghost, it can not be seen and it just floats among people, without touching them physical. Gossip is only touching, and hurting people mentally. As it says in the poem, gossip has no respect for justice. Gossip is not necessary about the truth, it is contrary to most often not about the truth, but just a little thing, that has grown every time, it had been told from one person to another, like H.C. Andersen´s story about the feather that grow to 5 chickens.
Gossip is usually “just” an exaggerated version of the truth story, but in the worst situations the story does not have anything to do with the truth story, or worse, it could be a story, that were made out of the thin air. I think the once, who is made without any root’s in the truth, is the worse and it is also those, that can ruin a person life. The big problem with gossip is, that it is hard to stop, and mostly it is impossible. Gossip starts from the person who has seen it, or the person who has invented the story. Then the person tells it to two other persons, and then they tell it to four persons, and so it just goes on. That way many people knows it, without knowing who really started it all. If you want to stop the gossip, you have to convict maybe 100 persons, that it isn’t true. Like I mentioned earlier, gossip can have a great effect on people’s life. It can simply ruin the victim’s life, if it maybe is about unfaithfulness, it can easily break a marriage. When Diana and Price Charles become separated, they both told tings about each other in the TV, just to make it look like it was the other part, which was the “bad guy”. After it had been on TV, the whole nation knew about it and that way, people discussed it when they were on work and it becomes gossip.
