American Psycho is written by Bret Easton Ellis and filmed by Mary Harron. The movie depicts a young and rich man in the yuppie community in New York in the 80s. You have every opportunity to fall into the crowd and be forgotten but if you stand against and create your own strong identity, you can go far in a city like New York.

Behind Patrick’s fine façade he is a serial killer and through the whole movie we see him killing people in different kinds of creative and brutal ways. The way he makes his victims watch videos of his previous murders really shows his psychopathic character.

Patrick Bateman is 27 years old and works in a firm named Pierce & Pierce, located on Wall Street. He lives in the Upper West Side Manhattan in New York. He is engaged to Evelyn, but has an affair with Courtney. Evelyn has also an affair with Paul Allen who Patrick works with. Evelyn and Patrick’s relationship is based on a lie, but it looks as if they don’t care and they are aware of it.

Patrick is a man with strong narcissistic features; he trains a lot and is very devoted to his appearance and many times a day he will go and look in the mirror to confirm him that he looks terrific. Every morning he goes through a routine, which is to train, take a shower and use all his new products in the right row follow, then he puts on a well dressed and expensive suit which has one of his favourite brands; Valentino Couture, Jean Paul Gautier, Oliver People. He has to do all of these things to “fit in” in the firm Pierce & Pierce where everybody looks identical.
