It starts with an introduction where a pub in Guildford get bombed.

The main person in the film is called Gerry Conlon, and he does not like the British control of Ireland. He chooses to throw stones at the British police and the police respond with violence. After his father find out of this, buy he Gerry a ticket to a ferry as go to England. He gives him some money to start with. Then take Gerry and his friend to London to visit a family member. They find a group of hippies and choose to stay there. After some time doesn’t they have any money, so they decide to rob a prostitute.

A few days later does they take back to Belfast and Gerry show his family all the money he got. The happiness is not for ever, a few hours later does the British police storm their home and accused Gerry for bombing a pub. In the police station started they to ask Gerry questions, but he do not know anything. Instead they try to break Gerry down with threatened his father with kill him. They make him sign that it was him who bombed the pub, because Gerry would do anything to protect his family. The police accused Gerry’s father for be a part of the bombing team, they also accused all the hippies and Gerry’s friend. Gerry and his father get a chance to talk together before they will be charged in court. Gerry told his father what he had been doing in London. His father believed he was innocent. The police had a very strong case against the accused, an example Gerry have signed on that he was guilty. In the court gets Gerry 30 years.
